SIMPLE GIFTS (4)

'Tis a gift to be simple, 'tis a gift to be free,
For the proud are cast down deeper than the sea;
The first shall be last and the last shall be first,
And the meek at last shall receive the Earth.

Repeat Chorus

This verse is not so well known because it is entirely modern. It was
written by Kathy Sobansky, who sings with "Clam Chowder", a D.C./Maryland
folk group. They do a lovely five part acapella arrangement including both
the traditional verse and this one on one of their albums or tapes (I can't
recall which, but they are all worth checking out). XX
