CraigS Lyr Req: The Northern Lass (13) RE: Lyr Req: The Northern Lass 18 Aug 03

There is a Lancashire Hornpipe called the Northern Lass, or The Donnie Lass, or the Lass of Doncaster. Mike Oldfield pinched a bit of it for Tubular Bells. I have a recording of it by Brian Peters. I have never heard any words for it. There are at least two tunes for the North Country Maid, the usual one from Yorkshire (as used to advertise Whitakers' Cock of the North Ales when I was a lad), and another from Westmorland - I have never heard the latter, but I have seen it written in a book. I took a photocopy, but I don't have it now, and I never got round to working it out. A lyric is in the digitrad, @displaysong.cfm?SongID=4272 which varies slightly from the lyric I had.
