According to Life Magazine, about early '60's, there was an Ozark ballad which was born around Pope County, AR about Joe Hillterbrand (or Hildebrand), who ran off with his wife's niece and lived in a cave for a year. The feds busted up a lot of folks' stills while looking for him. Joe and his young sweety lived by eating wild foods and robbing travellers, and gave themselves up only after Mrs. Hilderbrand agreed not to shoot them with her doublebarrelled shotgun. When they surrendered, their clothes were rags, held on by strips of cloth tied in bows. Does anyone know this song? The chorus contains "Run Joe Run."
