I think we have all heard of the 1914 Christmas truce, between the German and English troops I was surprised to ses a TV film, last night (23rd Dec) called The Silent Night. It was alleged to be based on an event that took place during the second world war. The plot of the film being that a German mother and her son, went to stay in their log cabin over the Christmas period, in 1944, I think. There they were joined by three American and three German soldiers. The mother, called Elizabeth, in the film; allowed the soldiers to stay in the cabin on condition that their weapons stayed outside. The film ended with both sides realizing that they had more in common than their political masters would have them believe. Does anyoone know anything about this event?
