Bob Hitchcock Lyr & Tune Req: Sarbanes-Oxley Blues (12) RE: Lyr & Tune Req: Sorbane Oxley Blues 02 Mar 04

I beg to differ Johnny. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act is one of the most significant pieces of legislation to come out of Capitol Hill in the last 25 years. It tries to protect the small investor from the greedy bastards at companies like Enron and Worldcom, makes corporate boards more responsible and regulates the auditors of public companies. It may not be perfect, but it's better than anything we had before, and will be changed over time as needs arise. Maybe there is a little knee-jerk-reaction in it, but thats better than the reaction of many of the people whose life savings were lost due to the liars and cheaters of a few companies

Senator Paul Sarbanes is the senior Senator from here in Maryland, and in my opinion (and those of many on both sides of the political spectrum) is probably the smartest person on Capitol Hill by a long shot. I spent 25 years in the Securities industry, 20 of them developing computer systems to assist in the regulation of equity markets, and the people I had contact with on a daily basis who had been called to testify before a committee on which Paul Sarbanes sat, would tell you that he was the most well read member of that committee. If you had not done your homework watch out, because he had.

So, I don't like to rant and rave but I feel very strongly about this issue, and have a great deal of admiration for Paul Sarbanes for trying to do something about it.

Bob.
