Sorry to be adding to the debate so much later...but dare I add that I was listening to an interview with Arlo Guthrie about Woody about 3 years ago... they played Woody singing 'his' song 'Hard Times' which was the first two Foster verses followed by the 'cotton buds are withered' and no more we'll hear the banjo' verses. It was implied if not actually stated, that Woody wrote the song! Perhaps it was his version of it with perhaps the 2 new verses being written by him. Who knows?
