In case that wasn't clear - the artists I mentioned sang songs by your favorites, and others (Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Becaud...). In fact I think Les Compagnons did backup for Edith Piaf at one point in their careers. Saw a wonderful documentary not long ago on Bravo about the art of French chanson. Very nostalgic.
