Jerry Friedman, jfriedman@nnm.cc.nm.us Tune Req: Edward (trad. v. Brahms) (3) RE: Edward/Brahms 07 Jan 97

The singer and composer (Karl?) Loewe, who was a little before Brahms, wrote a Lied called "Edward". The words are somebody else's translation of the famous Border Ballad:

Dein Schwert, war ist's von blut so rot (Why does thy brand sae drip wi' bluid), Edward, Edward... I'm sorry that I'm not capable of writing down the tune from listening to it, so I hope you can find it somewhere. If I had to guess, I'd say it wasn't either a German or a British folk tune. I like the song a lot, by the way.
