A few years ago, I was booked at a "hometown festival" about 120 miles from my home city and (presumably) due to absolutely no publicity, there was almost no audience...perhaps 100-125 people over the entire weekend! Several of the booked acts blew it off, so the promoters asked the few of us who didn't take off to play several sets each (there were 3 stages to be filled over the course of 2 days!) On the plus side, I sold CDs and/or cassettes to just about everybody and ended up getting paid a little extra to teach a few extra workshops, so it was pretty educational for me, as well.
