Wimoweh was based on a South African round collected by Pete Seeger from the singing of Solomon Linder. Pete was nice enough to be sure he got on the copyright. The original name for Wimoweh was "Mbube" which is harder to sing for non-Africans. It comes out of an established folk tradition of Zulu origin. Frank Hamilton
