This year the Salt Town Poets Works Outing was a trip just up the M6 to Maghull for the annual Day of Music. We had a wonderful time, and I'd just like to thank the organisers for putting on such a great day. Everything we saw was wonderful, but we particularly appreciated Derek Brimstone, Roy Bailey (goes without saying, I suppose) and our heroes The Oldham Tinkers (ditto. Many thanks also to the pub just down the road from the Town Hall whose aggressively militant non-smoking policy was also very entertaining. We got the impression that if anyone had dared to light up he would have been marched out into the car park and summarilty shot. Anyway, thanks once again to the organisers. We know from long and sometimes bitter experience what is entailed in putting on folk events. It's not as easy as some people might think, and Maghull did us all proud.
