I use both the Telephone Preference Service above (it's also a free number to call to register-0800-398893) and another one called "Silent Call Guard" (0870-444-3969) which you renew (again for free) yearly. They have brought down the number of calls I receive like the ones we're talking about, to almost nill. I also almost never answer my phone immediatly but wait for my answer machine to take it and listen to see who's calling. I don't know it this makes a difference, but I believe get a lot more hang-ups of solicitors who have been told not to leave messages. ..xx..e
