My source says that the original did not have the verse that starts "saddled and booted and bridled ...." but this was added by Smith in the 2nd edition of The Scotish Minstrel. It also says Smith's version had "but bonnie George Campbell will never return" instead of "My barn is to build and my baby's unborn." Seems like the folk process is continuing as usual. Frank
