GUEST,Scoville BS: Computer help--ethernet card? (23) BS: Computer help--ethernet card? 08 Jan 05

I'm having internet issues with my computer (which is why I keep posting as "guest") and nobody seems to be able to figure out what is wrong.

I have two Yahoo accounts (one for hobbies and one for personal stuff). As it is now, I cannot access either one of them from my own computer--I get an "error" pop-up and Internet Explorer crashes. I also cannot access Ebay. I'm also starting to have problems loading Mudcat. The crashes used to be occasional but became more frequent and now happen every time. I can use the rest of the internet just fine most of the time (I do get occasional crashes but not on the other sites that I visit regularly).

I can, however, use email, Ebay, Mudcat, etc. on my parents' computers, which are hooked up to the same internet connection, with no trouble, so I assume that the problem is with my computer and not with the connection itself. My father thinks the ethernet card has gone bad. Does this sound reasonable?

I have removed piles of unused files, scanned with a brand-new edition of ViruScan, de-SpyWared several times but none of that helped at all. Has anyone out there seen this problem before and do they have any more ideas for fixing it?
