My son is learning the cello and I play the tunes into BAnd in a Box which then will print out in any clef or key. As for not being traditional, it depends on how far back you want to go. If you read any of Thomas Hardy's novels of life in Dorset in the time of Napoleon, the local band that played at church and for village dances featured a cello.
