Nice thread: There are sooo many examples of the bad or odd line mucking up a fine song. Often it's a reach for a (bad) rhyme. This one has been bugging me lately: on Ray Charles' last CD (Genius Loves Company), he & Bonnie Raitt do the beautiful "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind". The phrase "melancholy jailer" sticks out as kind of strange (to me). Approx lyrics (BTW: These turn up differently, depending on the source): Do you ever want to know If all dreams go on endlessly Or do they just run down Somehow and gradually become The custody of that melancholy jailer father time Is it just me? I can't think of other examples now, but there are lots! ~CC
