I agree the playhouse was in a bit of a state but it was a dear old building and I for one attended many wonderful concerts with the place packed out - not folk week but bands like the Battlefield Band, Patrick Street, etc.

Problem with the Memorial Hall is its location on the edge of town and its ambiance inside - its fine for a craft fair or what have you but a poor concert venue.

Having said this no doubt the playhhouse will end up with whoever offers the biggest buck, whatever the loss of a cultural centre. It will be a big loss to Beverley and will go some way to reducing Beverley to the same pitiful level as every other miserable faceless town in England.
