GUEST,padgett (at home) UK Press view of Folk (35) RE: UK Press view of Folk 22 May 05

I have just suffered the annual Eurovision song contest (I nearly left it there!!!)

Big business ~ control of the Music industry has by and large squeesed out Folk music. Other countries seem to be still proud of their traditional music, but i got the impression that this is most certainly changing, even if this has been a myth for some some years.

What a lot of rubbish was portrayed [THE EUROVISION SONG ~competition] SONG what we saw was probabaly good visual TV with lots of dance..
the winner for me was I think the solo woman singer from Malta (actually the group from Greece won it ~ I think)

Shouldn't songs tell a story, communicate something.

Folk music should be given air play time the industry have us by the proverbials

Ken Bruce appears to be folky friendly, but then he is also a proud Scot. Do we have any Radio djs who regularly play folk music??

I know that many folk dance teams meet regularly to practice and that it is also a social event. Meeting and practicing throughout the winter months to be proficient in the summer months> Good on em and blow the no nothings in the so called quality newspapers.
