personally speaking I find the end bit of House at Pooh Corner where CR goes off to public school, almost unbearably moving...the death of innocence. Leaves Cordelia's death at the end of Lear in the starting blocks, when it comes to making me feel sad. I think I've read all of CR's books. I suppose it would have seemed almost an unforgiveable burden to put on your son's shoulders - AA should have had the sense to change the poor sod's name. CR himself seems to have made a decent fist of life though - a brave soldier, a devoted family man, a useful member of the community.. ..i visited his bookshop at dartmouth a few times but somehow never saw him - not very inspiring - as bookshops go. lovely position right on the harbour. all the best (by the way 21st was my wedding anniversary - 34 years this year - George jackson(soledad brother) was shot on the day we got married)) big al
