KathWestra TPFF this Sunday (2) RE: TPFF this Sunday 09 Sep 05

For those of you who don't live in Washington and may not speak in acronyms, "TPFF" stands for Takoma Park Folk Festival. Takoma Park, Maryland, is a suburb of Washington, D.C., USA and a hotbed of folkie activity (among other things, it's the home of the House of Musical Traditions, still the only music store dedicated exclusively to folk instruments, recordings, teaching, books in the greater D.C. area). The festival is a high-energy day-long event featuring music and participatory dance on several stages by many local performers, some traditional stuff (the smallest proportion), lots of contemporary singer-songwriters, and quite a bit of world music. It's free. The crafts are always wonderful. There are lots of good community groups who distribute info. (including the Folklore Society of Greater Washington), and lots of interesting food from area ethnic restaurants. It's almost always a mob scene, but a happy and festive one.
