In thinking about why no women flatpickers, I suspect it's a strength issue. Fiddle and keyboards don't require quite as much hand pressure as do those heavy strings on a guitar. You also don't find many women who are hot mandolin players either.

On the other hand, there are a lot of women who play standup bass in bluegrass groups. So maybe hand strength is not an issue ???
