Big Mick Happy Birthday Big Mick (68* d) RE: Happy Birthday Big Mick 11 Jan 00

It is almost midnight, I just managed to sneak home to get about 4 to 5 hours sleep in my own bed for one night at least, my workload(due to a meeting tonight) has just doubled, and I am frazzled. So I go up to the office to check in for the first time since I have been on the road..........and PRESTO, you have made me feel wonderful..........I hope you all realize how very important to me you are.

A few hours ago, I was in the home of a 19 year old woman. She has a 2 year old baby, and a set twins one year old. Her boyfriend, and the twins father, is in prison. She supports herself and her children as a cashier in a non-union grocery store in Flint, Michigan. This man she works for is notorious for firing Union supporters. She makes $6.15/hr, has no health insurance, no vacation, no pension, works 35 hours or more every week but is still classified part time.......you know the story. To say she needs her job desperately is the understatement of the millenium so far. Yet this young woman, who has so much to lose given the state of labor law in this country, stepped up, signed a card and is working to help get the union in. Her courage simply floors me. While we were talking, she lamented that there are so many uncaring people in the world. I told her that the world is full of people that care, people who want to make it a better place for her kids. Then I started to tell her about all of you. Don't be surprised if she shows up here.....but she will have to do it from the library.....can't afford a 'puter.

I love you all. It is that simple. Thanks.

Big Mick
