I learned of the sad news of his passing from folk dj Gene Shay on his
radio program Sunday night. He had just played a Kweskin Jug Band tune
prior to his eerie announcement that Fritz had passed away that
very morning. I had the pleasure of hearing Fritz accompany Tom
Rush at Boston's Symphony Hall on "Mole's Moan" and "San Francisco
Bay Blues" in December, 1981. The occasion was Tom's 20th Anniversay
Show. It was an impressive pairing that offered me a glimpse into
the eary 1960's folk revival days in Cambridge, Mass. It seemed that
Fritz was a unique musician who left his mark on folk music and
endeared himself to his musical associates-far and wide.
