You may be mistaken about that. I have read a good deal of alternative literature that suggests he WAS married, to the woman depicted as Mary Magdalene in the gospels (edited after the fact books) that the church priests in Constantinople eventually decided to make the "official" version. They wanted to cast things in a way that suited their particular viewpoint and their power structure, and they wanted to reduce Mary's importance in the Christian pantheon considerably. They also wanted to reinforce the rather new notion of a celibate priesthood. Jesus was referred to as "Rabbi" in the texts on several occasions. I don't believe you could be a rabbi in that society unless you were married...to a woman, needless to say.
