Yes, a Happy Saint Patrick's Day to all. But let us remember that the oldest of all Saint Patrick's Day parades, the one in New York City, still bars Irish lesbians and gays from marching. Not so the parades in Boston, Chicago, Dublin, etc., where lesbians and gays have been welcome for years. I guess the AOH, which sponsors the parade in New York City never heard of Sir Roger Casement, or Oscar Wilde for that matter. This year Susan Quinn, the presiding leader of the New York City Council, refused on principle to accept an invitation to march in the parade. Quinn is a well known lesbian, but she is also a high ranking elected public official, so the AOH felt obligated to make an exception and extend her an invitation. The only other public official I recall taking a similar stand on principle is former Mayor David Dinkins.
