I've just posted to Peter O'Toole, c/o his agent, a request for information on his knowledge of the song. Don't hold your breath. The text I have is that printed on a ballad sheet by Haly of Cork (c 1840) - this is almost certainly (95%) a print identical with that used by Diarmaid Ó Muirithe.
