I just dug out an old local history that has another legend about Dixey Bull. In it, he leaves his infant son to be raised by a farmer at Pemaquid. (Kid grows up and marries farmers daughter Ruby.)
As pirate leaves the fort Daniel Curtis fires a shot which kills the ship's helmsman.
Curtis is in fact a local hero and there is a lot about him in the Pemaquid Historical Society archives.
