ObSongs: In _Paths of Glory_, a bunch of rowdy French soldiers invade a German tavern. They are not polite to the pretty barmaid, and it begins to look nasty. But they stand her up on a table & ask her for a song. She begins to sing "Der Treue Husar", and soon all the soldiers are humming along. I cannot even recollect the scene without crying. I found out the name of the song because it was on a CD, and I inquired about it on rec.music.folk, and a German looked it up for me. He, too, had heard it in the movie, long before. --- Joe Fineman joe_f@verizon.net ||: We only of Creation (Oh, luckier bridge and rail!) Abide the twin-damnation -- To fail and know we fail. :||
