When I was a toddler, my Daddy thought it would be fun to put me on his lap & let me steer the car down the street. After all, my little car seat (not for safety, just for fun) had a steering wheel on it, complete with a horn in the middle of it which I was adept at honking. It was night, & dark out. We wound up in the ditch on the opposite side of the road. My father laughed the whole time. My mother screamed hysterically, not seeing the humor in the situation. There was no damage to the car. If there had been, since Daddy & Grandad owned an auto salvage, it wouldn't have been a problem, I guess. At least there was no one else on the street. And yes, Daddy drove a stock car in the Tulsa races back then, but not the car I steered.
