Not sure bakelite was ever in favour with piano accordion manufacturers. Sure it's not nitrous celluloid? The latter is still in favour with manufacturers, but not with OH&S regulations in the EEC apparently. And acetone, a solvent used in shaping it, is out of favour with those fighting the war on terrorism. As Bob Bolton once commented, acetone is what gives accordions their "ace tone", but doesn't do much for the rythem. (Something like that anyway; apologies if I mosquitoed you, Bob).
