Just a small and pedantic point. When I lived in that area many years ago, the Avon River mentioned in the original post was always referred to as the River Avon. This is not the first time in recent years that I have seen it written as the Avon River. Can any one explain this change? Has the Geographical Names Board (or similar august body) been buggering around with our heritage again? Information welcome. Thanks.
