Ewan MacColl once said that the folk club movement in England lost it's direction when it lost it's political content. Would anyone agree that the two finest song writers of the 20th century were Ewan MacColl and Woody Guthrie. Both overtly political writers. Folk song clubs need left wing politics to bring them back to life, unfortunately even the left wingers of today are right wing.
