Despite the fact that banjo players spend half their life tuning (and the other half playing out-of-tune), I assume you're dealing with one of those tuners (like the Intellitouch models) that clip to the peghead -- not the neck. Typically, they clip on so that the viewing screen faces the back of the peghead, where you can see it. I have see a smaller type, oval in shape, where the viewscreen is facing front. I think that kind has a swivel so that it can be turned to 90 degrees angle, so you can see it, way out there at the end of the strings. I think these are harder to use, since the natural angle for holding the instrument means you have to cock your head over unnaturally to use it.
