I am dead sure there was a site at Universite de Paris - much similar to the American Folklife (American Memory) stuff of the time.

I phoned the ref desk which had no link. They, sadly, reminded me that many US folklife departments have been forced to close up shop and just stick their websites in a box somewhere. Perhaps, Stephanie suggested, U Paris had to do the same.
