Easy Rider How Often Do You Practice? (40) RE: How Often Do You Practice? 05 Apr 00

Keep at it, Little Neo. Regular practice makes all the diference.

I leave one guitar in the living room and one by my bedside, upstairs, so whenever I get the urge, there is an instrument nearby. When I practice seriously, it will usually be for about two hours at a time, but I can't get the solitude to do that every day. Often, though, I sit, of an evening, and play and practice, while watching television. My daughter mutes the TV on the commercials, and we break out in song for two or three minutes at a time! Last night, during "NYPD Blue" I worked out a neat little slide for a song I've been playing for about a year or so.

A good time to practice is very early in the morning. Sometimes, when I can't sleep, I go downstairs and practice for an hour or so. I make the most progress at those times, and I sleep better afterwards - if I can STOP and go back to bed!

It also helps to have at least two new pieces to work on, to keep you fresh and interested.
