Jack Bruce of "The Cream" did a whole album of songs inspired by movies.
One of the songs was from a poem by Pete Brown, music by Jack Bruce "The Consul At Sunset"
inspired by the John Huston film "Under The Volcano" which was based on a novel by Malcolm Lowry.

I believe Richard Burton should have played the lead role, but either because of ill health or Burton died (I'm not sure which) the role was played by Albert Finney.
