'solar doesnt cut it for most of the world' take a look at Germany - they set out to make 20% of their energy renewable by 2020. It looks like it will be 30% actually. True they have subsidized the industry - and have guaranteed to buy all electricity generated from home pv panels at 20c/kwh for the next 10years, (and they have a population willing to pay more) but it it didnt take long for people to realize they can make money from it, and it has brought in lots of investment in the renewable energy industry - both wind and solar are miles ahead in Europe than in the US. and I wouldnt consider Germany to be a particularly sunny climate..
