Many of the music hall songs from the North East of England are still being sung by today's singers. Cushy Butterfield, Bonnie Gateshead Lass, The Lass Doon On the Quay, Keep Your Feet Still Geordie Hinny, Blaydon Races. These are fairly easy to track down. I think that this is also true, if to as lightly less extent, in the North West, although Rawtenstall Fair is the only one that comes to mind at the moment. My (limited) understanding is that similar local music hall cultures existed across the country, rather than there being a single geographic source. What the proportion was on local songs to "national" favourites, I've no idea. Are you only interested in the great national favourites?
