Lets face it, a high proportion of today's folkies were at Uni in the early 70's and we like to reminisce about those days because we can't remember what happened this morning. I was on the Salford Uni Folk Club Committee from about 69-72 which was weekly on a Sunday. We could book all the top names of the day and make a profit and had a real problem spending the grant. Unusually for any Uni club, many and sometimes most, of our audience were non-students from the nearby tower blocks. Our biggest draw, oddly, was Jake Thackray, who would pull in over 300 punters to the bar with its cheap crap beer. In those days we had to book through the MSG which had agency rights. I think we had the first concert by Steeleye Span but stand to be corrected on that.
