GUEST,albert Song Of The Earth (5) RE: Song Of The Earth 24 Nov 07

The Song Of The Earth I refered to at the start of this thread is the title of a wonderful book by Alexander Cordell. It is about the industrialisation of South Wales during the 1830s and is a really good read for anyone wanting a flavour of South Wales at that time.
In particular it is about a family of barge people who want to get their barge from one valley to the neighbouring Neath valley.
The show last night took the same title and was a collection of songs and prose about the rich history of valley life..
It included Joe Hayton singing Bells of Rhymney and A Working Man I Am on 12 string guitar ,Liam Kealy [banjo ] singing When We Walked To Merthyr Tydfil which is a lovely song by the great Idris Davies,Heather Pudner singing The Gates Of Cardiff Jail and Huw Pudner singing Skewen Main 1925.The Nemeth Family also performed Farenni Flood while Glynneath's own banjo maestro Alan Chesterfield sang Deportees.
All in all it was a super concert with the packed audience joining in at the end with the old welsh favourite Calon Lan.
