Guest: I agree with the "process" you describe. Yes, it is inevitable. I think it's more likely to happen with public domain stuff than it is with newly recorded, copyright protected stuff. When I've heard multiple versions of the same old 'standard,' I'll probably have a favorite, and it won't necessarily be the original version. Maybe I'm wrong about there being more freedom to improvise-within-limits within "Folk" than outside of it. What does anybody else think? Chicken Charlie
