Damien Rice was not influenced by " folk song" when he wrote this piece but by "folk"; the Blower family who lived in the only proper bungalow on Penn Street, all the other residences being pre-fabs. His mother used to refer to them as "those posh folks with the tiled roof". Their eldest daughter Mildred, still a very attractive and feisty young lady would never commit herself to a meaningful relationship and poor Damien is numbered among the many who could only admire her from afar but never become her fellah( his little beard didn`t help, it reduces chances by 50% so we are led to believe).
