Yes, it was a Basso Profundo (big fish!) party piece translated from the German. I first came across it sung by Jack Tambo in The Swan, Wadebridge, years ago when Sam Treglowan was landlord. Jack would start the final D.R.I.N.K.I.N.G. scale at Mervyn Vincent's lowest note - and then go down an octave. He was a good twenty stone and his whole frame shook!
