The Old Grey (Grye?) Song, aka Poor Old Horse, as collected at the Appleby Horse Fair by Jim Eldon, fleshed out with extra verses from, I believe, The Grieg & Duncan collection. Of special significance to Rachel & I because she was singing her harmony part to my singing of this at the Durham Folk Club back in 1994 before we'd even spoke to each other. We sing it as a duet, but it really comes alive with the other Durham singers, so what you heard last night was very much an ensemble piece evolved over the last 19 years, with lots of new voices in there too. A rare song, but not altogether unknown so last night was pretty special I'd say. We're working on a new, somewhat swifter arrangement for our Fylde spots this year...
