G-string: this is perhaps one of the oldest verbal jokes in musical circles due to that fact that most stringed instruments are tuned so that one string is a relative G, eg: EBGD (violin), EADGBE (guitar). cf 'Air on a G-String' by J S Bach. On the guitar it is also the string which breaks most often. |
