One of the modern Israeli folksongs. Written by Meir Ariel and Shalom Chanoch, who grew up on the same kibbutz, it is about one of the most significant aspects (back then, died out by now) of kibbutz life- singing parties on the green. Amazing song. Here it is performed by Arik Einstein. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPFiPJONIY4&feature=related AGADAT DESHE Lyrics: Meir Ariel. Melody: Shalom Chanoch. A LEGEND OF THE GRASS There is a pile of kids on the grass I like this sort of stuff Boys and girls together, it's nice that there is courage to mix once in a while. We sing songs and glance upwards A cloud basks in the moonlight We consider who to fall in love with tonight Although these thouhgts only annoy. Under my head lays a thigh And on my stomach a bundle of curls are tossed Slowly do hands commence their journey Their route is long and winding. We finish singing and listen intently Between us develop whispers People sneak into the grass, because there are all sorts of hollows there. Since drowsiness falls upon me I can't figure out To whom belongs the hand crawling all over, Making a piano out of my body. And when I awake there is not a soul on the green I'm a little cold and and a little wet from the dew To my surprise I see that The same bundle of curls lays on me. And from it a pair of eyes glance playfully And from it gleams a neck I ask: "hey, how's it going?" She answers smiling: "Alright." I ask: "Did you sleep too?" - She answers: Not necessarily" Her answers makes me blush I ask: "so what are you really doing here?" Her lips whisper: "I'm with you." I'm silent, she bites her lips I'm silent and my arms feel heavy Suddenly she turns and leaves But I'm still silent over there, well, enough.
