Studs Turkel was a pioneer in oral history ... always trying to get the thoughts of people rather than rulers. I have a great collection of his interviews with musicians 'And They All Sang' and among the folkies interviewed are Pete Seeger, Big Bill Broonzy, Woody Guthrie, Jean Richie, Alan Lomax and Bob Dylan I know it was Studs Turkel who greatly influenced one of Australia's pioneer Oral Historians Wendy Lowenstein with her 1968 classic about the last depression 'Weevils in the Flour' What a life!
