I have been asked by Mudcat Cafe to post something as to what we are doing with The Feel Good Tour. In the past I might have posted a thing or two as to what we are doing down in the Gulf Coast. But here it goes and hope all this makes some sense.
This project was started by the simple urge to go very soon after Katrina happened now almost 3 years ago. With the help of http://www.dragonfly.com/ and a car, some instruments, some camping stuff, we went down that way not knew anyone but knew where the destruction was….South. We now have made 12 trips and now we have 4 area schools we have adopted. How all this happened was in a word, serendipity. We found the food lines and pulled out our instruments and cheered up the troops, I guess you could say. At the time we were living out of our car and were for the lost in that mess. But at times you could say we had the wrong directions but the right path. If you want to read more just go here, http://feelgoodtour.blogspot.com/ it tells the story right from the start.
What we have been trying to do to outreach to folks in the music community and letting everyone know that is a need for musical instruments in the schools we have visited. We take one school at a time and this is a very grassroots group. If you have an instrument that has been sitting in the closets for a while and not being used then feel free to contact me. So far we have collected about 200 instruments.
