Thanks Jimmy, I have the same verses, although somewhat different. This is the version I sing.

SLANEY VALLEY

Asthoreen Bawn, when first we met,
I can see the roses yet,
And the lovelight in your happy eyes of blue,
I can hear your sweet voice say,
Welcome as the flowers in May,
As it did when first I whispered back to you.

CHORUS: Will you come with me asthore,
when the summer days are o'er,
And the rooks are winging homeward in the sky.
Where the mountains fade away,
on a field of gold and gray,
We'll go home to SLANEY VALLEY, you and I.

Asthoreen Bawn when you said yes,
brimful was my happiness
And the summer sped as if on flying feet,
Never shown the moon so bright,
In a cape of starry light,
Never sang the thrushes so divinely sweet. CHORUS

Asthoreen Bawn, for years you've been,
Of my heart, it's earthly King,
Ever tender, ever loving, ever true,
But your smile from Earth has gone,
Gladdening all it glowed upon,
As it did when first I whispered back to you. CHORUS

I used your spelling for Asthoreen Bawn as I was never sure of mine. (Storeen Bawn)

The verses are the same, just the wording switched about. My copy came from a friend who sings in Wexford. I am wondering how such a beautiful ballad had not been added to the DT.

Thanks again Jimmy, I will probably blend the wording of the 2 versions.

By the way, if you put a small br in the center of the <> it should make a new line. I had that problem too, drove me batty.

Regards

Indigo Blue
