Roud lists no version in Secret Songs of Silence. There is a fragment in the Greig-Duncan Collection (VIII, 2002, p 249 no 716) from William Walker, described as having been among verses customarily sung 'at homely dances ... to the various Strathspeys and Reels played'. My gude wife's awa to Fife For to buy a coal riddle Lang ere she comes back again Lassie can ye tail toddle. The editors' notes (page 402) also refer to, and quote, another fragment in the MSS (ref Argo 1.9), marked 'From MS': this was presumably copied from Skene, being identical (in wording but not in spelling) to the one Jack posted earlier.
